$10.00 Eagle Gold
The United States $10 gold coin was minted from 1795 through 1933. During that time, several designs were used.
From 1795 through 1804, Capped Bust designs were used. With a high mintage of 44 thousand, these Capped Bust Gold Eagles are scarce and quite expensive.
From 1805 through 1837, there were no $10 Eagles struck. In 1838, the Eagle was given a new design, the Coronet type which was used through 1907. Mintages were large in some cases and nice examples of the Coronet Gold Eagle can be bought for as little as $400-500.
In 1907, the Eagle changed to the Indian Head design. Different from all previous U.S. coins, they had no raised edges and the design and lettering were incuse, or stamped in. The last of the $10 Gold Eagles were minted in 1933.
